Wyandotte County Parks and Recreation is a major department of the Wyandotte County government. WCPR is in charge of all the parks in the county and athletic complexes.  There are park rangers who travel from park to park; there are people who are in charge of the events that go on around town. There are also those who work for Parks and Rec. that run the gyms. WCPR is the department that one would go to if one wanted to rent out a shelter at one of the parks.
Every year around Christmas time WCPR has an art fair that is held at the Eisenhower Community Center. In addition to the Eisenhower center there are nine more community centers around the Kansas City, Kan., area. Reservations for the community/recreation centers can only be made in person at the administration office. Of the 10 centers only three of them have kitchens and most of them have gyms. There is only one pool in the area however there are three spray parks in the city. Some of the community centers are available for a variety of activities including arts and crafts, sport leagues and fitness classes. Admittance to the pool is only a dollar while the spray parks are completely free.
Parks and Recreation manages many different type of picnic shelters that vary in size, but they all include parking, restrooms, picnic tables and grills. There is only one way to reserve a shelter house and that is in person, and one has to pay when the reservation is made. There are about 20 parks in the area and each is unique. Some have playgrounds.
